| Each and every one of us has our own individual, unique set of skills, talents and ambitions available to us that allows us the opportunity to generate a living in our chosen job, vocation and/or career. Typically, we go through three stages throughout our life, consisting of the learning stage (schooling), the earning stage (working) and the yearning stage (retirement). As we continue to grow, improve, develop and refine those skills, we are usually directly compensated for the value of those skills that we have to offer to the market. Most of us will spend nearly one-third of our lives in this activity. On average, we spend over 2,000 hours per year working a standard 40-hour workweek. It is not uncommon in todays times to work 60+ hour workweeks, which comes out to over 3,000 hours per year. In an average work span of 45 years, from age 21 65, we spend over 90,000 hours working. The question is, do we enjoy our work enough to spend over 2,000 hours per year doing it? If not, how can we build on our current skills and develop the career we enjoy in todays rapidly changing market? It is never too late to improve and increase our value in todays booming global marketplace.
