You’ve probably heard it said over and over again by those who keep telling you that it just can’t be done. Network marketing or multi- level marketing (MLM) is a scam, it’s just a pyramid scheme. They say nobody makes any money in that stuff, anyway. Well, for those who have been saying all along that the glass is always half empty vs. half full, please take a look at this true life tale of a former minister and former nun whose cup always seems to runneth over.

At age 36, Mark Yarnell had to borrow $179 to get his business started in the multi-level industry. Amazingly, over the years he has built his organization into a $70 million per year international network and has helped create numerous millionaires in the exciting process.

So how did he turn the impossible into the possible? It certainly did not happen overnight and it most assuredly was not accomplished by him alone. It grew from a passion to help others and the persistence and teamwork of a great network of ordinary folks who became extraordinary achievers.

Mark recalls, “It was a belief that one person can make a difference in this world that led me into the seminary in 1976, and subsequently into a decade of service as a Christian minister. After ten frustrating years in the field, I finally determined that in America, wealth tends to be an adult’s report card and I exited the ministry to begin a new career in MLM.”

“While I was still motivated by a sense of altruism, I had come to the conclusion that I could do more good as a spiritual person with vast sums of money than I could as an impoverished minister.”

Since 1986, Mark has been an independent distributor for Nu Skin, a billion dollar plus international organization based in Provo, Utah, which focuses on creating and distributing high-quality personal care products via MLM.

Incredibly, Nu Skin was started by Blake Roney, a young graduate of Brigham Young University along with his sister Nedra who in 1984 originated the idea around a kitchen table. They started with the premise to create a line of skin care products that contained only beneficial ingredients. With only around $5,000 in start-up capital the business has grown to become one of America’s greatest success stories.

An interesting piece of the Yarnell network is attributed to Rene Reid, who earlier in life spent four years as a Roman Catholic nun. In the early 90’s she was elected to the position of County Commissioner in Reno, Nevada, while she simultaneously built up her own MLM downline of 4,000 members. In 1991, Rene Reid became Mrs. Rene Reid Yarnell and the two combined their lives as well as their networks into one big happy family.

So how do you begin? “The best thing to do is to find a mentor at a young age,” Yarnell stresses with enthusiasm. “Spend a year or two working for that person for nothing or even offer to pay them for the privilege. It’s surprising that we will spend a fortune on four years of schooling and we will not learn the proper skills for creating wealth. Spending one solid year with a mentor can produce genius.”

Mark shares with us his secret of success, “You’ve got to have a goal bigger than you are. You need to find out what is most important to you. Most people just can’t believe that it IS definitely possible to make over $100,000 per month. Find out what you COULD do with $100,000 per month to help others. You need to determine what brings you the most joy and fulfillment in life and then create your career around it. Find the 10 best people in your area and pick one to be your mentor. Then stick to it. Nobody gets rich quick, it takes a couple of years to get going.”

So how do you get started recruiting people into your network? “It’s truly a numbers game,” states Yarnell in all seriousness. “You need to talk to 30 people a day. What I did was go to a nice hotel or in a business area. I would go up to 30 businessmen a day who were dressed in nice suits and looked successful, you know, the Mont Blanc pens, nice watches and ask them – If there was a way you could make $30,000 per month would you be interested? Of the 30, I would get cards from twelve, of the twelve, I would set appointments with four, of the four, I would get one who was really interested. It’s that simple. Anyone can follow through on the basics that are needed for success.”

For Mark, an early influence in his life was Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. He saw him speak when he was only nineteen at Methodist Unity Church in Springfield, Missouri. That got him reading “The Power Of Positive Thinking.” Mark reflects back as he shares his priceless wisdom, “The real difference is the mind set and the unlimited opportunities that are available to all of us. It’s applying the key ingredients, persistence, hard work and most of all perseverance.”

One of the most important things to the Yarnells is having the opportunity to share with others. With their steady stream of income from their downline they hold true on giving back. Recently they donated $150,000 to the United Way and were named “Philanthropist of the Year” in Northern Nevada.

To add to the excitement, a prominent banker who attended the event soon became a member of the Yarnells MLM organization. In one year, her efforts from her downline could easily net them more than the whole amount they donated

With all the exciting things happening in their business life, the Yarnells still manage to enjoy life to the fullest.
